• IMPRESSED — I can remember in preschool holding my writing instrument in a gripped fist. As I sat at the little circle table, coloring happily, my teacher would admonish me to hold it the adult way. I did — and went right back to my way as soon as her back was turned.

Groundbreaking on May 17, 1892, for the New York Central & Hudson River Railroad’s massive locomotive works, where Walden Avenue now runs west of Ellicott Place, triggered the Union Car Company to erect a separate plant nearby. It would occupy 10 acres east of Transit Road between the Lehigh Valley Railroad on the north and the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad.
