LHS grad recognized for St. Bona achievements

Brittany Feldmeyer is thankful for the opportunity she has had serving as a resident assistant at St. Bonaventure University.

Feldmeyer, who graduated from Lancaster High School in 2008, received the Senior Achievement Award at the college’s annual RA Awards Banquet on April 22, which honored her hard work and perseverance at Doyle Hall, a dormitory on campus.

Yard, plant sale comes to Hull House this weekend

The Hull Family Home & Farmstead will hold a yard sale and plant sale this weekend.

The hours for the sale will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 19, and Sunday, May 20, at the farmstead site, 5962 Genesee St. at Pavement Road, Lancaster.

Youth Bureau offers prep for Regents examinations

The Town of Lancaster Youth Bureau is accepting registrations for Regents exam preparation sessions from May 29 through June 19 for the following subjects: integrated algebra, geometry, algebra 2/trig, biology, chemistry, global history and geography II, and U.S. history and government.

The Lancaster New York Historical Society is selling tickets for its annual quilt raffle. This year’s quilt, “Circle of Friends,” was made by members of the Lancaster Quilters Guild. The raffle will be held July 4. Tickets may be obtained by calling Ray Wolfe at 683-4679.

Benefit planned for Lancaster man in need of transplant

John DiBartolomeo said he feels he is not done living.

In fact, since the 54-year-old Lancaster resident received a bilateral lung transplant in September 2006, he’s thankful for the gift of life that has allowed him to see his daughters graduate from college and the birth of his two grandchildren.

Library group seeks nonprofit status

The Friends of the Lancaster Public Library, Inc. is working on becoming a 501(c)(3) organization, which will allow donations to the group to be tax deductible.

Sheila Gibbs, president of the organization, said the group decided to move forward with the process in an effort to help its patrons.

Village bonds Lee Street sewer work

The Village of Depew is one step closer to installing a new storm sewer and sanitary sewer pipes in the Lee Street neighborhood.

Board members approved a resolution to bond no more than $3.5 million for the project on Monday at their board meeting.

The Cheektowaga Town Board has taken sides on one of the most contentious battles being waged in Western New York.

During its meeting last week, the board unanimously passed a resolution to support IDA reform that would lead the way to creating one Industrial Development Agency for Erie County. Currently, there are six IDAs in the county. Cheektowaga doesn’t have one.

This week is National Police Week — a time, Hochul said, to remember those who have been killed in the line of duty and thank officers for their service.

Gabryszak grabs lunch at Depew High

Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak stopped by Depew High School on Friday to sample what the cafeteria had to offer and talk with students involved in student government and government classes.

The official accepted an invitation to the school from Barbara Albi, the district’s food service director, who frequently lobbies on school nutrition issues both in Albany and Washington, D.C.

Rotary Club welcomes new members into fold

Griswold memorial race marks 20th anniversary

Members of the St. Mary’s High School community have, for the last 20 years, remembered Christopher H. Griswold with a memorial race and walk.

The event was organized after Griswold, a member of the class of 1973, died in 1992 at the age of 37.
