Farmers market features candidates, crafts
Vendors will not be the only ones vying for shoppers’ attention Saturday at the Alden Farmers Market — several hopefuls in the Sept. 14 primary election will be on hand for Meet the Candidates Day.
Candidates still are welcome to meet informally with customers. Those interested in attending may call Market Manager Nancy Hughes at 937-0103.
The market also will feature a craft show Saturday, and space may still available.
To participate or for more information, call Hughes.
The Alden Chamber of Commerce, sponsors of the market, will sell coffee, soft drinks, pizza and hot dogs.
The chamber also has begun selling tickets for its fall raffle of a basket of gift certificates, lottery tickets and special offers from several businesses. Worth approximately $1,000, the basket will be raffled at the market Saturday, Oct. 2.
A second-chance drawing will follow for two Adirondack chairs and footstools handcrafted and donated by James Fagerburg of Thistledome Cabinetry in Alden.
The prize is valued at approximately $400. Tickets for the raffle are $1 each.
Sponsored by the Alden Chamber of Commerce, the market is open from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through the first week in October and is located in the Alden Village Plaza parking lot at 13119 Broadway. It is a WIC-approved farmers market. Due to Health Department regulations, pets are not allowed in the food areas of the market.
Bicycles and skateboards also are not allowed within the market for safety reasons.
The full schedule of events is available at www.aldenny.org.
