Man stashes meat in pants in effort to avoid paying

Depew
Tuesday, Aug. 24
• A Martin Court man reported at 10:10 a.m. that a vandal spray-painted the side of his van red.
• A Depew man reported at 2:25 p.m. that someone entered his unlocked home and stole a laptop and an iPod. Loss was listed at $800.
• Police received a call about a reckless driver on Broadway and stopped the van matching the witness’ description at 5:45 p.m. The driver, a Lancaster woman, allegedly had the odor of alcohol about her, displayed signs of intoxication, had an open bottle of vodka in the vehicle and refused to provide a sample for a breath test. She was released on her own recognizance.
Thursday, Aug. 26
• A Depew woman reported at 5 p.m. that a man claiming to be from California called and said that she had to be in court there to answer charges of check fraud for a quick loan of $300 that she never repaid. The woman never took out such a loan and was concerned because the man had her Social Security number and bank account information. She was advised to close her account and report the incident to the attorney general’s office.
Friday, Aug. 27
• A representative of a Dick Road store reported at 8:55 p.m. that a Buffalo man stuffed three packages of meat down his pants and left the store without paying. He was charged with third-degree burglary, petit larceny and criminal impersonation and taken to the Erie County Holding Center.
• Police saw a vehicle speeding and stopped the vehicle at 11:55 p.m. on George Urban Boulevard. The driver, a Depew man, allegedly had an odor of alcohol about him, displayed signs of intoxication, failed field sobriety tests and registered a 0.16 percent blood alcohol content on a breath test. He was released on his own recognizance.
Saturday, Aug. 28
• A Depew man reported at 12:45 p.m. that someone hit his house with paint balls, damaging a window and the siding. Loss was listed at $100.
Lancaster
Monday, Aug. 23
• A Lancaster man was arrested at 6:30 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly aiming a BB gun out his vehicle window on Transit Road. He was released on an appearance ticket.
• A Lancaster man reported at 1:05 p.m. that someone stole two iPods from his unlocked vehicle. Loss was listed at $350.
Tuesday, Aug. 24
• The director of St. Mary’s Cemetery reported at 12:25 p.m. that vandals knocked over a headstone that had been repaired the day before. The administration will prosecute if the vandals are caught.
