Village of Depew residents have another option in paying their property taxes.

The village will accept credit cards as a form of payment — either in person or over the Internet. The measure was approved by the Village Board at its meeting on Monday when the board authorized Mayor Steven Hoffman to sign an agreement with Government Payments and Genesis Payment Processing Group.

The contract is for three years. All costs for the credit card services will be the responsibility of the payee.

In addition, residents will now be asked to pay for certain police services. Board members voted Monday to set several fees to be enacted by the Depew Police Department.

Criminal history/background checks now cost $5 for residents, $15 for nonresidents and are free for government agencies. Fingerprinting for employment will cost residents $10 and nonresidents $20. Accident reports and police reports/ synopses cost $5. Pistol permit paperwork costs $25. CDs of photographs or recordings cost $100.

Trustees also authorized Hoffman to enter into an agreement with Cummins Northeast on Aero Drive to perform maintenance on the seven village generators at a cost of $3,304.73 over the next year.

The board also appointed Trustee Linda Hammer to the position of affirmative action officer for the Erie County Community Development Block Grant Urban County Consortium.

The board also gave permission to the Depew Recreation Department to waive the admission fee for public skating on Sunday, March 4. The ice rink will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. to celebrate Family Asset

Building Month, which is being run by the Lancaster Youth Department.

The next board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Village Hall, 85 Manitou St., Depew. email: cfarrell@beenews.com
