As winter slowly gains its foothold on Western New York, play is heating up in the gyms of the Lancaster Parks and Recreation Department’s adult volleyball leagues. Play this past week saw the races tighten up in the men’s leagues, while the women’s league saw some teams opening up a little breathing room on their rivals.

The spotlight teams for this week are division-leader Fireside Inn Fury, managed by Pam Jansma, in the Co-Ed league, and Mary Ellen Wohlrab’s Frank’s, who top the ladies’ “C” league.

Men’s League

Tuesday Night League

Frank’s tightened up the race for first in the division as they took two of three from division-leading Green Buffalo Pub-Batt. The Green Buffalo Pub-Wife Dodgers opened up a little room in fourth place by taking two of three from the fifth place Good Tymes South-Ziegler squad. Jay’s moved to three games over .500 as they swept away the Attack, 3-0.

Wednesday Night League

Crossover play is now completed as divisional action will go on from here. Elma Town Grille-Schlesinger swept the Chucksters, 3-0, to grab a share of first in “A.” Green Buffalo Pub-Klock moved into third in “A” as they took three from Green Buffalo Pub-Nuwer. In an “A” league tilt, Team Steinel took two of three from the Free Agents, while the lone “B” match had Elma Towne Grille-Beltz sweep Sal’s, 3-0.

Women’s Article

“A” League

Division leader Green Buffalo Pub-Kremer opened up a two-game lead in the division as they swept Served Better Cold, 3-0. Second place Good Tymes South-Weber dropped to two games back as they only took two of three from the Basil Ford Outlaws. Ellicott Manor pulled a minor surprise as they captured two of three from Fassel’s Uphostering, while Frank’s Hot Saucies moved out of the basement with a 3-0 sweep of Frank’s-Rudz.

“B1” League

Division leader Fireside Inn-Hubert took two of three from the hard charging Fireside Inn-Guari. Hit ‘n Run surprised the Perfect Ten, 2-1, while Good Tymes South-Schalberg moved closer to fourth in the division with a 2-1 defeat of Maryan’s.

“B2: League

The division leading Served Better Cold opened up a little breathing room as they swept Smith’s Gun Shop to open up a four-game lead in the division. The Polish Falcons are at .500 after taking two of three from DeRonde’s. The Spinoffs also are at .500 after winning two of three from the Volleydolls.

“C” League

Second place Sgt. Pepperoni’s gained a game on the division leader as they swept Bridal Chateau, 3-0. Division leading Frank’s took two of three from the Nite Crew to go to 21-3. The Desperate Housewives solidified their grip on fourth with a 2-1 conquest of the Villagers.
