Thill posts personal best at Varsity Select meet

Photo by John NormilePurchase color photos at www.BeeNews.com Junior Jenny Thill and sophomore McKenzie Kuehlewind posted first places last weekend for Lancaster at the Varsity Select indoor track meet inside Lancaster’s Fieldhouse.

Thill won the pole vault with a personal best of 11 feet, 6 inches, which is first in Western New York and currently second in New York State. Her score is second all-time at Lancaster, following former national high school record holder Mary Saxer (14 feet), who graduated in 2005.

Similarly, Kuehlewind pushed her personal record in the shot put to 41 feet. That’s good for No. 1 in Western New York and third in New York State.

Eighth-grader Ashley Grazen tied for first in the 50-meter dash at 6.8, while junior Alex Miller-Wampler won the 20-pound weight throw with a personal-best toss of 45 feet, 10 inches. Freshman Kelsey Barrett dropped 25 seconds off her 1,500-meter racewalk with a second place time of 8:44.6. The 4x200-meter relay of Lauren Sullivan, Grazen, Emily DeAngelis and Allie Mazur was second in 1:57.2. Sophomore Courtney Drozdowski was third in the 20-pound weight throw at 41 feet, 1 inch.

Photo by John NormilePurchase color photos at www.BeeNews.com The boys team was led by senior Jordan Kihl, who won the shot put (52 feet, 5.5 inches) and the 25-pound weight throw with a personal record of 55 feet, 11 inches. Junior Jake Schmitz won the 1,600-meter run with an indoor best of 4:46.0. Senior Alex Colarte won the 600-meter run with a time of 1:33.

Senior Craig Kaiser took second in the 1,000-meter run with a sectional-qualifying time of 2:47.9. Rob Miller ran 6.2 for the 50 dash with a best-ever time, good for second place.

The 4x400-meter relay of Kaiser, Colarte, Miller and Rob Stachowiak was third with a season best time of 3:51.2. Brandon Barrett took third in the triple jump with a jump of 35 feet, 2.25 inches.

Saturday, the Redskin indoor track team travels to Fredonia State for the league’s team challenge meet starting at 9 a.m.
