Free college planning workshop offered

“Understand and Prepare for College,” featuring a nationally certified college planning specialist, will be offered to parents of college-bound students at the Lancaster Public Library, 5466 Broadway, Lancaster. The seminar will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 10th. This seminar will help parents to understand the college selection process, factors that affect financial aid, and college cost reduction strategies. Call 580-1124 to register.

Art society solicits creative types

The Twin Village Art Society will hold a “paint in” at 7 p.m. Monday, March 5. Members and guests will be working on individual pieces, answering questions and demonstrating their techniques. Come and watch or bring your own paint kit and join in. The event will be held in the second floor meeting room of the Lancaster Municipal Building at Broadway and Central Avenue following a short meeting. Refreshments will be served. Lancaster Fire plans fundraiser

The Lancaster Fire Department’s Rescue Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 is planning its 39th annual spaghetti dinner from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at the Lancaster Municipal Building at the corner of Broadway and Central Avenue in the Village of Lancaster. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.

Spaghetti dinner to benefit resident

A spaghetti dinner to benefit Christine Van Ry is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Joseph’s Catering, 275 Columbia Ave., Depew. The event includes a Chinese auction with prizes donated by local businesses. Van Ry is an Amherst resident who is suffering from Stage 4 pleomorphic sarcoma. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children, free for children 5 and younger and $5 extra at the door. Raffle to benefit Holy Mother of the Rosary

A Home & Garden Raffle will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at Holy Mother of the Rosary Cathedral, 6298 Broadway, Lancaster. The grand prize is a washer and dryer. Admission includes food and refreshments. Additional side raffles to be held as well. Tickets cost $20.

St. Elizabeth’s Guild plans meeting

Members of St. Elizabeth’s Guild will meet at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 5 at St. Elizabeth’s, 5539 Broadway, Lancaster.

St. Mary’s Elementary to present play

St. Mary’s Elementary School is presenting Disney’s “High School Musical, Jr.,” from March 8 to 10. Performances will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, which includes a dinner theatre; at 7 p.m. Friday, and at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday,. Garden club plans pot luck dinner

The Federated Lancaster Garden Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 14 at St. John’s Lutheran Hall, 55 Pleasant Ave., Lancaster. The program will be the installation of officers, presentation of awards and a pot luck dinner. Members are asked to bring a favorite dish to pass and a place setting including a miniature or small arrangement to be judged.

Breast Cancer Network plans seminar

The Breast Cancer Network of Western New York will hold an educational meeting at its Bella Moglie building, 3297 Walden Ave., at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13. Our Lady of Pompeii to host dinner

Our Lady of Pompeii School, 129 Laverack Ave., Lancaster, will host a spaghetti dinner featuring homemade sauce and meatballs, salad, bread and butter, and homemade desserts, plus coffee and tea from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 11. Tops Markets presents cancer test kits

In recognition of March being Colon Cancer Awareness Month, the Tops at 65 Grey St. will provide a free take-home colon cancer screening kits for uninsured persons age 50 and over from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 12. A free Tops gift card will be given to those who complete their kits within two weeks. Information on additional no-cost testing services for women 40 and over will also be available. Lenten vespers service planned at church

A Lenten vespers service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18 at Holy Mother of the Rosary Cathedral, 6298 Broadway, Lancaster. It will feature organ music, choirs and bells.
