New chief operating officer named to YWCA


Alvarez Alvarez Cheri Alvarez has been named chief operating officer for the YWCA.

Alvarez will oversee operations of the nonprofit’s three major program areas: Children & Youth Services, Housing Services and Senior Living, with a focus on development and implementation of action plans tied to YWCA WNY’s 2016 three-year strategic plan.

The YWCA’s newest recruit was chosen for her leadership skills, program development and community engagement expertise, as well as demonstrated ability to shape organizational excellence.

“I am very pleased that Cheri Alvarez has joined YWCA WNY as COO — a pivotal leadership role which will help us realize the potential of the organization,” said Jill Robbins, CEO.

“Cheri rounds out our leadership team, bringing with her the skills, initiative, commitment and expertise necessary to drive our efforts forward at a critical and exciting time for the organization.”

Alvarez holds a master’s degree in counselor education from Canisius College and brings with her 17 years of progressively accountable experience in health and human services, most notably with Gateway Longview, Catholic Charities and Cradle Beach.

Alvarez is also a Health Foundation for Western and Central New York health leadership fellow, as well as a 2015 Business First 40 Under 40 recipient.
