New deli opens on Broadway, in place of Dossett’s Market

by MARIA PERICOZZI Intern

Robert Klaczyk, owner of K.B. Holding Foods, opened a new business, called Dossett’s Side Door Deli, in Lancaster six months ago.

This dine-in or takeout establishment is one of two Side Door Delis in the area. It is located at 5813 Broadway, next to the 7-Eleven.

The location was purchased from the owner of Dossett’s Market after he retired, keeping part of the name.

“I see the growth in Lanc aster,” Klaczyk said. “I see how many people are moving out this way.”

The deli features brick oven pizza, made-to-order subs, entrees, homemade soups, imported cheese from Italy, and fresh-cut meats.

Klaczyk said Dossett’s Side Door Deli is also known for the desserts, including cannoli chips, cannoli and its award-winning cheesecake cones.

“We won best dessert at Taste of Lancaster,” Klaczyk said.

Dossett’s Side Door Deli has three chefs on staff every day: David Chojnacki with 18 years of fine dining experience; Jake Piskor with six years, specializing in sauces and entrees; and Klaczyk with 26 years of cooking for celebrities, grocery stores and food manufacturers.

The most popular items at the deli are pierogi, Polish sausage, and Polish pizza, Klaczyk said.

For younger members of the family, kids can make their own pizzas.

“They wear a chef hat and gloves, and we show them [how] to take the pizza crust, how to put all the ingredients on,” Klaczyk said.

A Girl Scout troop came in a few weeks ago to build their own pizzas while their parents shopped.

“We know most of our customers by name,” Klaczyk said.

He noted that the business also offers catering, by person, by piece or by pound — ready to cook or fully cooked. Customers can design their menus and have the option of delivery.

Dossett’s Side Door Deli is open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday; and 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday.

Klaczyk said the deli has been taking on a lot of catering, so the last few weeks it has been open seven days a week, instead of six, and opening from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sundays as well.

“We hope to be open seven days a week, with the continuation of new customers,” Klaczyk said.

The second location of K.B. Holdings Side Door Deli is at 1650 William St., Buffalo.

“We have another gentleman opening a Side Door Deli in Pennsylvania, and another lady opening a Side Door Deli in Rochester,” Klaczyk said.

“We’re happy to be here in Lancaster with a new deli on Broadway.”
