The Nesting Place Home Décor and More is the result of hard work between Latella and her late husband, John, who ran the Fireside Inn for many years.

“I make the wreaths, and my husband said ‘you need to start a store so that we don’t have so many in the house.’ That’s how it started, and it just got bigger and bigger,” said Latella.

“I think he wanted to do something afterwards; he didn’t want to sit around after we sold the restaurant. He was very, very outgoing. I just know he’d be meeting and greeting.”

The Nesting Place has been a family endeavor from the very beginning, with Latella’s sister helping cart back merchandise from Florida to her daughter, Jaclyn, creating the business logo. One son-in-law is the “muscle man,” helping bring in heavy items, while the other is helping Latella create her website, which is due to launch in December.

“It really has been a family thing. I’m so proud of them for stepping up to the plate, because everybody is so, so busy, but they’ve taken time, which shows a real united front. I’m real proud of them,” said Latella.

Located at 5478 Broadway in Lancaster, the shop is right down the street from Frosty’s, which made for some good foot traffic in the summer months.

Now that cold weather is setting in, Latella hopes that the community will remember her shop for holiday gifts. Tea towels, wine tags and fall wreaths are the first items customers see, with other sections highlighting women’s clothes, jewelry, rustic lanterns and lakeside themed merchandise as you walk through the store.

Latella offers items from vendors as far away as California or Florida, handpicking individual vendors she feels will be a good fit for her store.

“I went down to Florida with a 16-foot Penske truck that I drove back with my sister, and we picked up different vendors. Everything in here is from vendors as far away as California, Nevada, Florida, South Carolina and Pennsylvania, and I’m looking into a couple more, just to make it different and unique,” added Latella.

The Nesting Place owner makes some items in-house, too, including wreaths for holidays and various seasons. Right now, fall-themed wreaths turn the store every color of bronze, tan and earthy tones.

“I actually have another location at the back of this where I do all my wreaths. I’ve got an order for two Christmas wreaths; it’s nice when I’m here. It’s quiet, I can go in the back and kill two birds with one stone, so to speak,” said Latella.

Drawing from her realtor days, Latella has been selling wreaths to realtors in the Western New York area as well, custom-made and perfect as a housewarming gifts.

“They know what the house is like, what the style of the clients is like. I know from being a realtor that after you close, you want to give them a housewarming gift, and this is really personal. I just did one for a gal and she said sunflowers, this woman is nuts for sunflowers,” added Latella.

The Nesting Place will even have wreath-making classes in the back area of the shop. The first class will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, and will focus on small Valentine’s Day-themed wreaths.

Latella will also have a pre-Christmas shopping party on Thursday, Dec. 7, with the store remaining open until 8 p.m.

The Nesting Place is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Visit “The Nesting Place Home Decor and More” on Facebook for any updates.
