Salon, food pantry work together on food drive

Salon Ultima is teaming up with the Resurrection Life Food Pantry to help local veterans have food for their Christmas dinner.

The Food Pantry at Resurrection Life is operated by members of their church, and they distribute food to hundreds of families. They are a registered distribution center for the Food Bank of Western New York that serves those in zip codes 14225 and 14227. On average, they distribute five to six tons of food per month.

“It’s important to me to help those in our community and especially the veterans. These men and women have served our country and we are all truly grateful for them,” said Jill Call, owner of Salon Ultima.

“Our goal is to collect enough food to help 100 Veteran families from the Res Life Food Pantry for their Christmas dinner.”

In an effort to motivate those to participate, they’ve provided a specific list of items that the pantry needs for these dinners and they’re raffling off a basket to collect money for the hams that these veterans will receive, with proceeds going to the food pantry.

In addition, if you drop off these items from the list, you can pick an ornament from their “Giving Tree” at the salon, which gives back to the person giving with a coupon for a discounted service or gift valued at $10 or more.

The specific list of items requested are: one canned pineapple, one box mashed potatoes, two cans of corn, two cans of green beans and one boxed dessert, like a brownie or cake mix.

Donations must be received at the salon by Dec. 16. Salon Ultima is located at 1380 French Road/Plaza in Depew, between Transit Road and Borden Road. Salon hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The list of items needed can also be found at www.salonultima.com.
