Wallace sponsoring preparedness training

Assemblywoman Monica Wallace, D-Lancaster, is hosting a free American Red Cross Emergency Preparedness Training at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Cheektowaga Senior Center, 3349 Broadway, according to an announcement from her office.

“Western New Yorkers are no strangers to the devastation that can be caused by extreme weather events,” Wallace said. “Torrential flooding and severe snowstorms have crippled our region before, and we know that they will again. While we can’t stop emergencies from happening, we can be prepared and ready to respond in efforts to mitigate the damages caused.”

The two-hour training is open to all and will teach participants ways to prepare themselves and their homes, as well as how to respond to and recover from various types of natural and manmade disasters. The training will cover subjects of what to pack when evacuating, returning home from evacuations, managing utilities during emergencies and preparing for insurance claims.
