Rev. Kenneth Geyer, Order of St. Benedict

Geyer Geyer The Rev. Kenneth Geyer, 84, of Belmont Abbey, N.C., formerly of Lancaster, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012.

Rev. Geyer was born in Lancaster; professed as a monk on July 11, 1946; and was ordained as a priest on June 13, 1953.

He earned his associate degree from Belmont Abbey Junior College, his bachelor’s degree from St. Benedict’s College and a master’s degree in musicology from the Catholic University of America.

He taught at Benedictine High School in Richmond, Va., from 1957 until 1959, where he was also assistant pastor at St. Benedict’s Church.

He later served as chair of the Department of the Fine Arts and Music, chair of the Humanities Division, prefect of students, moderator of the Spire and chapter counselor for Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, organist and choir director, novice master and prior in the monastery at Belmont Abbey College. He was also a member of the board of trustees.

Rev. Geyer is survived by the monks of Belmont Abbey; his sister-in-law, Bernice; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

A funeral service was previously held with arrangements made by McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont.
