Lancaster students help coordinate visit from Chumlee

by JULIE HALM Editor

The Lancaster Opera House and Lancaster High School Academy of Finance Internship Program have teamed up to bring a History Channel star to the area.

“Chumlee,” who is on the show “Pawn Stars,” will speak at an event to be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, and the venue has been relocated to the Lancaster Opera House, 21 Central Ave. The doors will open at 6 p.m.

Two students from the Lancaster High School Academy of Finance have had the opportunity to spend the summer working on the project.

Addison Thuerck is a rising senior in the program and has enjoyed her time working on the project along with classmate Julia Lyons. According to Thuerck, the students are placed in internships based on what they hope their future careers will be.

The show will be hosted by Linda Pellegrino of WKBW and will also feature Mark Hall-Patton and Rebecca Romney, both of whom make regular guest appearances on the show.

Neil Diamond impersonator Mark Thomas and the Buffalo Jills will also be at the evening’s events.

According to David Fillenwarth of the Lancaster Opera House, Chumlee will participate in a casual interview and Pellegrino will also field questions from the audience.

Fillenwarth said he got the idea that Chumlee might be a good attraction to bring to town after visiting the famed pawn shop and seeing Chumlee walk briefly out the back.

“And I watched the mayhem that ensued as people were screaming out his name and flashbulbs going off everywhere,” he said.

According to Thuerck, Chumlee is a much bigger celebrity than she anticipated working with over the summer, but she is excited to see such a big name come to town.

Thuerck and Lyons have also been coordinating a basket raffle, which will be part of the evening’s events. The pair were responsible for sending out letters to vendors to get donations.

General admission tickets are $35, and VIP tickets are available for $100. The latter includes priority seating at the front of the house and a meet-and-greet with Chumlee.

Tickets are on sale at the Lancaster Opera House box office from 9:30 a.m. through 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The box office is located on the second floor of the Lancaster Town Hall, 21 Central Ave.

Tickets will also be on sale the night of the show, beginning at 5 p.m. They can also be purchased by calling 683-1176.

The event will benefit both the Academy of Finance as well as the Lancaster Opera House.

The Lancaster High School Academy of Finance selects between 40 and 75 students each year to learn the basic fundamentals of the professional business world.
