Numerous memorial activities to take place on Monday

Throughout Lancaster and Depew this Memorial Day weekend, numerous groups will be remembering fallen service people with parades, services and other ceremonies.

The Depew Joint Veterans Committee will hold a 9a.m. service at the Lancaster Rural Cemetery on Saturday, May 28, which is slated to end at approximately 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by flag placements at St. Adalbert’s and St. Augustine’s cemeteries. Refreshments will then be served at AMVETS Post 14, 4721 Broadway, Depew.

On Memorial Day, the committee will begin the day with a 9:15 a.m. church service at the Vine Wesleyan Church, 425 Penora St. At 10:15 a.m., a parade will begin at the Village Hall and conclude at Veterans Park where memorial services will be held, and Judge Anthony Cervi will be the guest speaker.

Refreshments will then be served at the Depew Fire Hall on Meridian Street.

Also on Monday, the Lancaster Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7275 will hold a memorial service at 9 a.m .at the Lake Avenue Veterans Park.

Following the services, a parade will assemble and proceed down Lake Avenue and onto School Street, then down Pleasant Avenue to Central Avenue and end on Clark Street at the Lancaster Town Hall.

Refreshments will be served following the parade at the VFW Post, 3741 Walden Ave., courtesy of the post.

Additionally, a Memorial Day Mass will take place at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, St. Adalbert’s Chapel at 10 a.m.

The Mass is one of six special Masses that will be celebrated at Catholic cemeteries in the Buffalo area on the holiday.
