Lancaster Middle School’s assistant principal terminated

John Bender, the former assistant principal of Lancaster Middle School, has been fired following a recommendation by a hearing officer, according to a release from the school district.

On Monday, the Board of Education took action to implement Hearing Officer Jeffrey M. Sherman’s recommendation of three days prior to terminate Bender’s employment, said the release.

Sherman’s decision was made pursuant to Education Law Section 3020-a. Hearing Officer Sherman upheld all of the charges pursued against Bender by the school district, according to the release.

“Hearing Officer Sherman ruled that the district proved its case. He imposed the penalty of termination from employment — the penalty sought by the board. The board has accepted and implemented Hearing Officer Sherman’s decision, voting unanimously to terminate Mr. Bender’s employment,” read the release.

According to the School District, Bender had been at the middle school since July 2013. He had been an employee of the district since July 2000 and was formerly assistant principal at Lancaster High School.
