Bee newspapers win five awards in press contest

Bee Group Newspapers captured a total of five awards in the 2016 Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the New York Press Association.

Results were announced last week at the group’s annual convention in Saratoga Springs.

Reporter Jason Nadolinski received two awards for photography. He won second place in the Sports Feature Photo category for a photo published by The East Aurora Bee. It showed an Iroquois High School baseball player celebrating a triple in the team’s sectional playoff victory.

His photo of a Tonawanda High School girls soccer player advancing the ball in its annual season-opening tournament took third place honors in the Sports Action Photo category for The Ken-Bee.

The West Seneca Bee won second place in the Best Small Space Ad category for an entry designed by Bee artist Suzanne

Cyr.

The Bee’s classified advertising section, which is included in all nine editions, won third place. Holly Schiferle is the classified advertising manager.

The Amherst Bee won honorable mention for Best Sports Coverage, led by Reporter Patrick Nagy. More than 180 newspapers submitted 2,957 entries in the contest.
