Depew man killed by hit-and-run vehicle near airport

Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run during the predawn hours of Tuesday on Genesee Street, near Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

At approximately 4:52 a.m., a pedestrian, later identified as Robert Prigl, 55, of Depew, was struck and killed by a hit-and-run vehicle. According to Cheektowaga police, the unknown vehicle was heading west on Genesee Street as it struck Prigl, who was in the roadway in the vicinity of 4255 Genesee St., an area across from the airport that is home to several hotels and restaurants.

The department’s accident investigation unit is following up on several leads, according to a Tuesday afternoon press release. Additionally, investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident or observed a damaged vehicle in the area at the time of the accident to contact the accident investigation unit at 686-3580.

Police said Prigl was also a resident of Fort Myers, Florida.
