Story Times

Lapsit Story Time for 3- to 23-month-olds with a parent or a caregiver is being held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays from Oct. 17 to Nov. 7.

Toddler Time for 2- to 3-year-olds with a parent or a caregiver is being held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays from Oct. 17 to Nov. 7.

Pre-School Story Time for 3- to 5-year-olds with a parent or a caregiver is being held at 10:30 a.m. Fridays until Oct. 6.

Cozy Time for children involves stories and activities, all in comfortable pajamas, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 and Dec. 6.

Children’s Specials

Music with Mar will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23 and Nov. 20. Children ages 5 and younger can enjoy an educational music and movement class instructed by Melissa Sacco. Each session is limited to 30 children.

Movin’ & Groovin’ with Miss Gwen for 2- to 5-year-olds promotes learning and physical fitness and includes dancing, yoga and interpretive movement, from 11:30 a.m. to noon Fridays until Oct. 6.

Tech Sundays Makerspace gives 5- to 10-year-olds a chance to try out new gadgets such as Osmo, Sphero, Little Bites, Cubelets and Snap Circuits at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15 and Nov. 12.

Free Math Tutoring for grades three to nine is available from 6 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday. NYS-certified math teacher Catherine Thielmann will be on hand.

Halloween Craft for ages 5 to 12 will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, presented by the Lancaster Youth Bureau.


Junior Friends of the Library, for 12- to 18-year-olds, is an opportunity for participants to volunteer, raise funds and sponsor youth-oriented programs. The next meetings are at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15 and Nov. 12. To join, call Miss Gwen at the library or email cassidyg@buffalolib.org.

Teen Gaming takes place from 3 to 4:45 p.m. every Friday. “Exergame” with Wii video games and board games. Snacks are provided.


Movie Mania will continue at 2 p.m. Saturdays with “Lego Batman,” Oct. 7; “Guardians of the Galaxy II,” Nov. 4; and “Beauty and the Beast,” Dec. 2.

Chess and Classic Board Game Club meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday of each month. Participants should bring their own boards, and those younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult.


ART-Y Time, with art teacher Kim Aquilio, offers the chance to create an autumn-inspired work of art, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11. Registration is required, as space is limited.

Friends of Lancaster Library is accepting new members from 1 to 2 p.m. the second Thursday of every month. The group is always looking for new members.

Lancaster Library Board meetings will be held at 3 p.m. every third Thursday of the month.

Book Group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month and is accepting new members. Call Annette at 860-2476 or email twistedrose64@msn.com to register and obtain a list of upcoming books.

Adult Social Knitting Group meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month. All experience levels are welcome.

Yoga for adults is a four-week yoga session that runs from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26. A second session will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Fridays, Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Classes are taught by certified yoga instructor Peggy Basin; space is limited.

Adult Computer Training

Family History Research with Ancestry Library Edition Database will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16. Participants will be able to trace their family roots using Ancestry Library Edition, a database available at any Buffalo and Erie County library.

Book a technology trainer for one-on-one assistance with software support or internet training; Sessions are not designed to troubleshoot computer problems or repair hardware. Call 683-1120 to register for a 45-minute appointment.

The library, at 5466 Broadway in the Village of Lancaster, can be reached at 683-1120. Parking is available in the lot at the library or at Trinity Episcopal Church, Lancaster Presbyterian Church, Potter’s House and the Moose Club.

Library hours

10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

From September through May, the Lancaster Library is able to provide seven day-per-week service through the community’s donations.
