Lancaster cross country runs at McQuaid

The Lancaster Boys Cross Country competed at the Mc- Quaid Invitational Saturday, placing 12 out of 23 teams in the unseeded varsity large school race.

Junior Armani Merlino led the team with a great performance, finishing seventh overall with a time of 15:45 on the three-mile course.

Behind Armani were Derek Lasker (16:47), Jared Rogalski (17:02), Collin Rice (17:10), Matt Skakal (17:15) and Jacob Maciejewski (17:40), who all had strong performances.

The merged results for all boys varsity races revealed that Lancaster placed 54th out of 195 teams at the invitational.

Earlier this season the Boys Varsity squad placed fifth at the Red Dragon Invitational, ninth at the East Aurora Invitational and lost to Frontier in a dual meet.

Leading the charge in all three of those races was Merlino who placed ninth at the Red Dragon Invite, sixth at the East Aurora Invite and second at the dual meet against Frontier. As of Oct. 2, Lancaster is ranked seventh overall in the Boys Varsity Cross Country Large School Poll.

Lancaster will next race at the West Seneca Invitational Saturday, then against Williamsville North and West Seneca West on Tuesday.

The Boys JV Cross Country team is off to a very successful start this fall. The team finished second at the Red Dragon Invitational, third at the East Aurora Invitational and 18th (out of 30 teams) in a tough field at the McQuaid Invitational. Key contributors for the JV squad thus far are Steven Blatto, Malachi Steger, Mike Wolford, Derek Walter, Eli Kerner and Sam Auria.
