Story Times

Lapsit Story Time for 3- to 23-month-olds, with a parent or a caregiver, is being held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays until Feb. 20.

Toddler Time for 2- to 3-year-olds, with a parent or a caregiver, is being held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays until Feb. 20.

Pre-School Story Time for 3- to 5-year-olds, with a parent or a caregiver, is being held at 10:30 a.m. Fridays until Feb. 23.

Children’s Specials

Movin’ & Groovin’ with Ms. Meg for 2- to 5-year-olds promotes learning and physical fitness and includes dancing, yoga and interpretive movement, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Fridays until Feb. 23, and March 9 to 23.

Tech Sundays Makerspace gives 5- to 10-year-olds a chance to try out new gadgets such as Osmo, Sphero, Little Bites, Cubelets and Snap Circuits at 2 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 11 and March 11.

Free Math Tutoring for grades three through nine is available with NYS-certified math teacher Catherine Thielmann. Call to set up an appointment.


Junior Friends of the Library, for 12- to 18-year-olds, is an opportunity for participants to volunteer, raise funds and sponsor youth-oriented programs. Meetings are at 1 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 11 and March 11. To join, call Ms Meg at the library or email carrm@buffalolib.org.


A Movie and Popcorn afternoon will feature a family-friendly film and free popcorn at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21. All ages are welcome, and no registration is required.

Chess and Classic Board Game Club meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of each month. Participants should bring their own boards, and those younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult.


Friends of Lancaster Library is accepting new members from 1 to 2 p.m. the second Thursday of every month. The group is always looking for new members.

Lancaster Library Board meetings will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month.

Hatha Yoga runs from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 8, 15 and 22. There are also Friday classes from 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 9, 16 and 23. Classes are taught by certified yoga instructor Peggy Basin; space is limited. Registration is required, and students are asked to bring their own mat.

Adult Computer Training

Family History Research with Ancestry Library Edition Database will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, as an introduction to tracing family roots with a database similar to www.Ancestry.com. The database contains collections of vital and original records, including those related to birth, marriage, death, military service and immigration. Participants must have basic computer knowledge, such as mouse, typing and internet skills, and is intended for adults ages 17 and older.

Organizing your Computer Files and Folders will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26. This class shows participants how to save files on the computer and is intended for adults ages 17 and older.

Registration is required for all events, unless otherwise noted. The Lancaster Public Library serves residents of Lancaster and Depew.

The library, at 5466 Broadway in the Village of Lancaster, can be reached at 683-1120. Parking is available in the lot at the library or at Trinity Episcopal Church, Lancaster Presbyterian Church, Potter’s House and the Moose Club.

Library hours

10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.

From September through May, the Lancaster Library is able to provide seven day-per-week service through the community’s donations.

The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library offers downloadable e-books, audiobooks and videos that can be listened to or viewed on your computer and transferred to a portable device.

There are never any late fees. Titles automatically return to the library’s collection.

This service allows patrons with a valid library card to download materials to their devices for free.
