Friends of Reinstein Woods Events

The following events are scheduled at the Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve, 93 Honorine Drive, Depew, unless otherwise noted. For more information or to register for a specific event, call 683-5959.

After-School Escape

Children and their parents or caregivers can participate in a different hour-long outdoor activity each week. The program, for children in kindergarten through grade five, is at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays in March. The program is free, and no registration is required.

Who’s Awake?

On this guided walk, we will search for early risers and migrants in the preserve. The trek begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10. Registration is required.

Educator workshop: Project Budburst

Learn how to engage your students in hands-on citizen science as you monitor plants as the seasons change, during this workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 14. Submitted data is used by scientists and educators to study the effects of climate on natural ecosystems. The program is for educators of kindergarten through 12th grade, and two CTLE hours are provided. Registration is required.

Green and Clean workshop

Make your home clean and green for St. Patrick’s Day at this interactive workshop scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17. Create simple natural cleaning and beauty products, and get ready for lots of resources to help you keep toxins out of your home. There is an $8 materials fee for Friends of Reinstein Woods members and a $10 fee for nonmembers. Registration is required.

Woods Walk: Nature guide’s choice

Join a guided nature walk through the woods at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17. No registration is required.

Senior Stroll

Experience nature at your own pace, and enjoy a leisurely, guided walk through the woods at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21. Bring a lunch if you want to eat indoors after the tour. The program is for adults only, and registration is required.

Signs of Spring

Put a spring in your step as we look for signs of the new season at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24. Registration is required.

Birding 101: What Bird am I?

Come learn the general types of birds found in Reinstein Woods at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, during the third Birding 101 class. The class is for adults and children ages 8 and older. Registration is required.

Worm composting: Class No. 1

Learn the initial setup of red wiggler worm composting for indoors or outdoors at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 31. The cost for the starter kit is $2 for Friends of Reinstein Woods members or $4 for nonmembers. Class No. 2 is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, and class No. 3 will be Saturday, June 30, so call to register for all three.

Nature Tech Adventure: Solar Solutions

Discover the fun side of science as we harness the power of the sun to bake, create art and more at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 2. The program is for children ages 8 and older. Registration is required.

Nature Tech Adventure: Nature Apps

Explore how you can use your smartphone to enhance your nature experience at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3. The program is for children ages 8 and older. Registration is required.

Nature Tech Adventure: Birding

Incorporate technology with birding, and learn about eBird and the Merlin bird identification app at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4. The program is for children ages 8 and older. Registration is required.
