Newcomers Jill Simme Fecher and Shannon Cohen will be the newest board members in the Lancaster Central School District, defeating incumbent Brenda Christopher.

Fecher garnered 2,037 votes, while Cohen received 1,968 and Christopher, 836.

The district’s $107.5 million budget, as well as all other propositions, passed. The vote for the budget was 1,939 to 697.

Descriptions of the other propositions are as follows:

• Proposition 2: Spend roughly $1 million to purchase eight 65-passenger buses and one 20-passenger bus. Funds would come from the district’s School Bus Reserve Fund. The vote was 2,184 to 467

• Proposition 3: Establish a “General Capital Reserve Fund — 2018,” which would be used for capital improvements to facilities and would replace an existing capital reserve fund that is expiring. The new fund would expire after 10 years and have a maximum balance of $10 million. The vote was 2,044 to 580.

• Proposition 4: Establish a “School Bus Reserve Fund — 2018,” which would replace an existing capital reserve fund used for bus purchases, which at $2.9 million has nearly reached its maximum allowable balance. The new fund would expire after 10 years and have a maximum balance of $10 million. The vote was 2,004 to 581.

Depew School District’s $43.7 million budget also passed, by a vote of 270-88, and voters also approved a $291,901 bus proposition, by a vote of 304-51. The proposition provides for the purchase of one 30-passenger school bus with three wheelchair stations and Wi-Fi, and four 30-passenger buses with Wi-Fi.

These purchases replace five buses with more than 478,943 miles combined, according to the district.

Board President David Sheff and Trustee Justin Young will each serve another three-year term on the Depew School Board. They ran unopposed.

The next board meeting for Lancaster will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Central Avenue School, 149 Central Ave., Lancaster.

The Depew School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, in the Depew High School cafeteria, 5201 Transit Road, Depew.
