Collins Collins The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, along with the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, presented Rep. Chris Collins with its annual Spirit of Enterprise Award on Monday.

The award was presented at Sealing Devices, a privately held manufacturer of sealing products in Lancaster and a member of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership.

The Chamber’s Spirit of Enterprise Award is given annually to members of Congress based on their votes on critical business legislation. Members who supported the Chamber’s position on at least 70 percent of those votes qualify to receive the award, and Collins received 93 percent.

The Chamber scored members on 14 House votes, including votes on regulatory reform legislation, access to capital for small businesses, and protecting access to Medicare. Various votes in support of small business were also scored.

“Businesses of all shapes and sizes need sound, common sense policy in place in order to get off the ground, grow and succeed,” said Nick Vaugh, Eastern Region manager for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “The Spirit of Enterprise Award recognizes those members of Congress who have done what’s right for our friends, family and neighbors running businesses in Western New York and across America.”

Several speakers were on hand to congratulate Collins, including Dottie Gallagher-Cohen, who is the president and CEO of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership.

“The Buffalo Niagara Partnership congratulates Congressman Collins on receiving the Spirit of Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamb er,” Gallagher-Cohen said. “We know Chris is fighting for Buffalo Niagara employers every day in Washington. His focus on federal policies aimed at lowering costs, encouraging investment and creating jobs is exactly what we need.”

This is the 30th year that the U.S. Chamber has formally honored the accomplishments of members of Congress.

“Thank you to both the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Buffalo Niagara Partnership for advocating pro-growth policies that are good for businesses in our community,” Collins said. “I’m honored to receive the Spirit of Enterprise Award and look forward to watching businesses, like Sealing Devices, continue to thrive.”
