Depew church leads way with day of service

More than 100 men, women and children participated in God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday, an event organized by Lord of Life Church in Depew.

The event marked an annual day of service for many Lutheran congregations nationwide.

The Depew church, located at 1025 Borden Road, participated in a variety of service projects, which included singing with residents of Greenfield Health and Rehab, making dog biscuits and pet beds for an animal shelter, painting miniature bird houses for a local nursing home, and assembling health kits and greeting cards for homeless veterans.

A group of 20 youth and adults from Lord of Life spent the day helping a local neighbor clean up her yard, trimming, weeding and mulching.

Depew Mayor Jesse Nikonowicz and Village Trustee Audrey Hamernik were on hand to thank the volunteers.

“It was a day that participants will not soon forget as, together, they did God’s work with their hands,” said the Rev. Deborah Turley, Lord of Life’s pastor.
