ABC Bel Canto Choir sets open rehearsals

ABC Bel Canto Choir is inviting Western New York youth to sing at open rehearsals on Thursdays, Sept. 13, 20 and 27, at Christ United Methodist Church, 350 Saratoga Road in Amherst. Time slots for grades are as follows: 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for grades three through six and 7 to 8:30 p.m., grades 6-12.

St. Mary’s plans men’s Bible study

St. Mary of the Assumption Church will offer a men’s Bible study group, called “Helping Each Other Revive Discipleship” from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Nov. 3 and 17, and Dec. 15, in Room 140 at the St. Mary’s Elementary School building, 2 St. Mary’s Hill in Lancaster. Fundraiser to benefit Lancaster sports

Lancaster High School’s “To the Matts” fundraiser, now in its 10th year, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Lancaster High School cafeteria, 1 Forton Drive. Lancaster students will be selling name-brand mattresses, through Custom Fundraising Solutions, to raise funds for football and women’s lacrosse. Central Hose Polish dinner planned

Depew’s Central Hose No. 4 will hold its annual Polish dinner and basket raffle from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Northside Fire Station, 112 Brewster St. in Depew. Dinner includes fresh and smoked Polish sausage, pierogi, vegetable, rye bread and dessert. Refreshments and Polish beer will also be available.

Holy Mother slates chicken BBQ

Holy Mother of the Rosary Cathedral will hold a chicken barbecue dinner, drive-thru only, from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 6298 Broadway, Lancaster. Dinners are $11 and include potato, vegetable, roll, butter and dessert.

Substance abuse discussion slated

A community conversation about substance abuse, moderated by WGRZ’s MaryAlice Demler and hosted by Legislator John Bruso, will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Lancaster Opera House, 21 Central Ave. Narcan training will be available from 6 to 7 p.m. Discussions led by Kids Escaping Drugs, Dr. Joshua Lynch and personal testimonies will take place from 7 to 8:15 p.m., with a question-and-answer portion at the end. Griefshare support group organized

Anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one may join the Griefshare support group at Our Lady of Pompeii Church. The first meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Ministry Center, 129 Laverack Ave., Lancaster. A different DVD will be shown on two Wednesdays of each month on how to cope with grief and loss. Coffee and an informal discussion will follow. St. Mary’s plans Fall Fest on the Hill

St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Lancaster, will hold its Fall Fest on the Hill from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at St. Mary’s Elementary School, 2 St. Mary’s Hill in Lancaster. A ticket price of $50 admits two adults and includes seasonal food stations, soft drinks and a raffle ticket for a chance to win a $10,000 grand prize and other cash prize drawings. Alden Farmers Market sets upcoming events

Ted Burzynski, magician and balloon man, will kick off Kid’s Day at the Alden Farmers Market from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. Emma and Carl Eddy, a father-daughter guitar duo, will perform from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Raffle tickets for an Amish wooden shed will also be for sale. Tickets are $3 each, two for $5 or 15 for $10. The drawing will take place Saturday, Oct. 13, the market’s closing day. Our Lady of Pompeii plans forgiveness talk

Auxiliary Bishop Edward Grosz, of the Buffalo Diocese, will present a program on “Forgiveness: baggage, ‘fessing up’ and difficulties in forgiving” from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Our Lady of Pompeii Ministry Center, 129 Laverack Ave., Lancaster. Household collection and clothing drive set

The Junior Ladies of Charity and St. Vincent de Paul Society for St. Mary of the Assumption Parish will host a household collection and clothing drive from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, in St. Mary’s parking lot, corner of Aurora and St. Joseph streets. Televisions, computers, monitors and furniture will not be accepted.

Meditation and yoga classes scheduled

St. Mary of the Assumption Parish will hold meditation and yoga classes from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 25 and Oct. 9 and 23, at St. Mary’s Elementary School, 2 St. Mary’s Hill, Lancaster. Meat raffle slated for Elks Lodge

Crafters sought for St. John’s event

Faith UMC to hold free concert

Faith United Methodist Church, 5505 Broadway, Lancaster, will hold a free concert from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9. According to information from the church, the concert, which will feature The Trouble Notes, is being planned in honor of Jesus and for the love of music and the community.

Lancaster Unleashed slates fall fundraisers

Lancaster Unleashed, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to establishing a dog park in Como Lake Park, will host “Woof and Treat” at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the corner of Central Avenue and West Main Street, and a craft and vendor show at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at St. Mary’s High School, 142 Laverack Ave. in Lancaster.

Buffalo Bandettes schedules auditions

The Buffalo Bandettes will hold its 2019 auditions from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Catalyst Fitness, 1402 French Road in Depew. Dancers are asked to bring a head shot and $25 in cash or check upon arrival. A prep class is available for $25 from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the same Catalyst Fitness.
