SAVE THE DATE — Lancaster Unleashed Inc., a nonprofit organization that aims to create a community dog park, will host its second annual Shopping Unleashed event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at St. Mary’s High School, 142 Laverack Ave., Lancaster.

This year’s event will feature an eclectic group of local crafters and vendors. In addition to shopping, there will be food and drink available for purchase, music, therapy dogs visitors can pet, and the chance to win one of several baskets which will be raffled off.

CRAFTERS WANTED — Specialty food makers and craftspeople are needed for Alden’s Christmas in the Park holiday marketplace, which will be open from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the American Legion Hall, 13143 Broadway.

If you create handcrafted items and local specialty food products and would like to be part of the marketplace, contact coordinator Nancy Hughes at nancyhug@hotmail.com or 937-0103.

VETS EVENTS — Several events will be held Sunday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day including a veterans outreach event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Cheektowaga Senior Center, 3340 Broadway.

Erie County Legislator John Bruso will be honoring veteran Russell J. Salvatore as Community Humanitarian of the Year. He will also name veterans Robert Dersam and Michael Hoplight as Community Champions.

Representatives of the VA Western New York Healthcare System, Veterans One Stop of WNY, Erie County Veterans Services, Veterans Business Outreach Center and NY Division of Service-Disabled Veterans’ Business Development will be on hand to offer their support and services to local veterans.

The Erie County Clerk’s Office will also be processing “Thank A Vet” applications.

The “Thank A Vet” card is a complimentary photo ID certified by the Erie County clerk that a veteran has produced his or her original discharge paper and has been honorably discharged.

The card is available to any veteran who is an Erie County resident and honorably discharged from any branch of service of the U.S. armed forces. If interested, bring an original DD-214 discharge paper.

Also on Sunday, there will be a free spaghetti dinner for veterans and guests from 1 to 6 p.m. at Lancaster Elks Lodge, 33 Legion Parkway. Call Lancaster Elks Lodge at 685-1478 for more details.

In addition, The Lt. Col. Matt Urban VFW Post 7275 will host a Veterans Day steak dinner from noon to 4 p.m. at the post, 3741 Walden Ave., Lancaster. Tickets cost $12 presale or $13 at the door. The eat-in or takeout dinner includes steak, salt potatoes, corn, chef salad, roll and a dessert. For tickets, call 681-8387.

One-Stop Carwash, 4535 Broadway, will also offer a free car wash from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to anyone who has served in the armed forces.
